About Us

mattMatt Johnson, the “J” in J&B Tree Care

Growing up in the small town of East Bethel Minnesota, I had the outdoors as my playground. Some of my fondest memories are of my three sisters and I climbing around in our giant willow tree appropriately named “the big tree” (we were a logical bunch). Every chance I got, I would sneak up with my father’s giant saw and trim the branches out of the trees to make them more climbable. Many activities and hobbies came and went throughout my life, although climbing trees was always a consistent pastime.

After Graduation I followed my passion back, once again, into the canopy. I started to pursue a career as a professional arborist. Gaining experience, knowledge, and working my way up through the ranks at Swingle to trim crew foreman. It was During that time that I met Arron Banowetz; a stocky, jolly man with a laugh that could wake Rip van Winkle. We were paired up and worked together for nearly two years. As our work dynamic became more efficient and coordinated, we saw in ourselves the capability to provide the front range with our developed brand of arboricultural enthusiasm and care. Having acquired the techniques and confidence Aaron and I needed, we made the decision to leave Swingle and start J&B tree care.

Arron Banowitz, the “B” in J&B Tree Care.

In the fall of 2012, Matt and Arron launched J&B Tree Care.  Arron and his wife have since relocated back to the West Coast, and now have a beautiful little girl, and a handsome baby boy.

Although Arron is no longer active with J&B Tree Care, he remains a dear friend, and as an essential part of the company’s history, we are proud to retain his initial in the company’s name.

I was born and (mostly) raised on the Western Slope of Colorado. I didn’t know much about trees – although I’ve always enjoyed their shade – until I started to spend time with Matt. His passion for his work, for treating both customers and trees with respect and care was contagious. He’s been teaching me a lot ever since, and I think I can honestly say I learn something new from him every day.

My past work experience varies – I have worked in retail, as an office assistant for a contracting company, as an assistant cook at a Bible school, in social services, and most recently, as a Customer Service Representative/Receptionist at a locally based international Change Management Company. The one thing all my past jobs had in common was customer service. My life experiences and personal beliefs have taught me that serving others well is not a chore or obligation, but a privilege and a gift.

Since I started working for J&B Tree Care, I have found that we are blessed to have the best customers anyone could ask for. After getting off the phone with folks, I often find myself muttering things like “She was cool,” or “He was such a sweetheart!” It’s no small thing to work for wonderful people, and it’s been a true gift to come alongside my husband, and work together to serve our customers and their trees by acting with integrity, honesty, and thoughtfulness in our dealings with them.
